Worry & Concern: Pastor Rajiv

Read: MATTHEW 6:25-34;1 PETER 5:5-11

While worry and anxiousness are somewhat negative emotions, concern is a legitimate one. Because if we did not have concerns, we would be apathetic individuals with no ability to focus on real problems.

While concern and worry are related, and worry uses concern to enter our lives, the truth of the matter is that concern provides spiritual energy to respond to problems with Godly solutions. No so worry. And that is why, today, we need to make that distinction.

Now without any exceptions all of us humans worry even those who say they do not worry about anything also worry about something or the other at some point in time. And the truth is that these days there is a lot to worry about.

We worry about the rising cost of living in this volatile economic environment we worry about our jobs. We worry about our kids irrespective of how grown up they may be we worry about their well-being. And the list goes on.

So, since worry is such an integral part of our lives the question is how do we deal with it?

First let's be clear that WORRY is a disabling faith. How? it makes the present poorer by borrowing from the future’s imagined troubles. (We talked about the meaning of FEAR in an earlier post – False Evidence Appearing Real). Then where is the question of trusting God? If we trust God implicitly, he will give us the grace and the means to face each day’s troubles as they come.

Our two bible passages today give us a very clear perspective on dealing with worry. Our first passage today is Jesus’ words on worry from his sermon on the mount. In these 10 verses Jesus is talking about true trust. Jesus is saying that if we trust God implicitly, we need not worry about necessary food, drink or clothing.

Worry and anxiousness have always been a perennial problem of humanity. And the root cause is – our arrogance and pride! We think we know all the answers and we are competent to provide all the solutions. Wrong. We know nothing. And that is why we sit and worry. 

Peter says – in VERSES 5 TO 7 - 5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for

“God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Humility, mutual submission and concern for the interest of others are the essence of Cristian love.

So, summing up, if we don’t trust the very person who can address our needs and solve all problems, simply because we are too proud to admit weakness and failure, the only thing left to do is to sit in a comer and worry.

When in Trouble - Stand still!

"Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord". — Exodus 14:13

When the believer finds themselves hemmed in by immense trials—unable to move forward or retreat, pressed on every side—what are they to do? In that moment of crisis, God’s command rings clear: "Stand still."

It is in this pause, not in panic, that wisdom dwells. Despair whispers, “Give up—there’s no way out.” But the Lord calls for strength wrapped in joy, even in the darkest hour, and for faith rooted in His unwavering love.

Cowardice urges retreat: “Return to your former ways; this path is too hard.” But if you are truly a child of God, this is not an option. His sovereign word compels you forward—from strength to strength—unstoppable even by death or the forces of hell.

Standing still is not surrender, but preparation. It is the gathering of strength for the next leap. Precipitancy demands action: “Do anything—just don’t wait!” Yet rushing often blinds us to the true work God is already orchestrating.

Presumption cries, “Walk into the storm and expect a miracle!” But Faith listens to none of these voices. Faith hears one command: “Stand still.” And like a mountain unmoved, it obeys.

To stand still is not to idle, but to hold oneself upright, alert, and ready—for the next divine instruction. It is a posture of patience, confidence, and expectation. And soon enough, the voice will come, as unmistakable as it did to Moses: "Go forward."

Pastor Rajiv: Reliving Jonah

Once upon a time there was a man named Jonah. God calls Jonah and charges him with a specific task go to Nineveh the capital of Assyria and ‘cry out against it for their wickedness.

What did Jonah do? He went in the opposite direction. The Assyrians were a wicked nation and their years of cruelty had left deep wounds in the Israelite psyche. And for this reason, Jonah hated the Assyrians and his hatred for them caused him to question God’s grace. God knew that the Assyrians were a wicked nation so Jonah questioned why would God want to forgive them? Jonah thought he knew better, so he took a judgement call: Run away from God! But can anyone do that?

In spite of Jonah’s self-justification of his action his was an act of deliberate disobedience. Jonah did not understand God’s grace. He did not understand that God appointed the Jewish people to be a light to the nations and what this meant. He did not understand why God wanted to give a second chance to the people of Nineveh.

We all know Jonah’s story. But what is the big take away?

Jonah's story isn’t just about a man and a fish; it’s about the tension between calling and reluctance, mercy and judgment, obedience and fear.

We all have our Jonah moments where we wrestle with obedience, fear, and the unsettling reach of grace. A very common example is when you're asked to forgive or show kindness to someone who deeply hurt you, and every instinct says, “they don’t deserve it.”

So today, Jonah is alive and well in each one of us. Every time we ignore Gods calling or His direction, we replicate Jonah. Every time we are judgmental, we replicate Jonah. Every time we think we know better than God, we create Jonah again.

Jonah’s story is in the Bible with a purpose: Make us realize and remember a few things -

One, God never has a plan B! If God has chosen you for a specific purpose, He will achieve that purpose and he will achieve through you as he has planned it.

Second, in spite of our high intellect, we DO NOT know better than God.

Three, judgement belongs to God. Jonah struggled with God's mercy toward Nineveh. We too sometimes question how grace works—who “deserves” it and who doesn’t. It’s humbling to remember that we’re recipients of grace, not gatekeepers.

So, do not ignore or disobey god’s calling and purpose, even if you think you know better. Christ has given spiritual gifts to all believers, and each gift has a specific purpose. It could be music, singing, preaching, supporting the sick, praying, feeding the hungry – there is plenty of work to be done in God’s world, and even though we are all sinners we are to do His work. 

The Last Resort

Human independence is devastating. When we are faced with a challenge, our first option or attempt is to address and solve it ourselves. We think we know all the answers. And then when we face failure we pray to God to help us out. Often, prayer becomes the last resort.

The fact is that the enablement to solve problems or face challenges actually comes from God. He is the alpha and creator of everything, including our abilities and circumstances.

After all when we face a problem with an appliance, do we not refer it to the manufacturers for a solution?

Then why, in our life, do we try and solve everything on our own? Why not just refer it to the "manufacturer" of our lives?

Logically, prayer should actually be our first option and not the last resort. As we go through life, living merrily everyday, we become stuck when we suddenly face a wall. That's when we rush to pray. But if proactive prayer was in our life, God would have shown us the way around the wall, and not getting stuck. The wall would not magically disappear, but the way would be shown.

As John Bown says (in the Upper Room), "Prayer should be the steering wheel that guides our life, not the spare tire we pull out in emergencies".

Is it Finished?

When Jesus proclaimed "it is finished" from the cross, he meant His great work was done. He knew He would be resurrected and thus, offer us a new life.

But for us it is not finished; it is the beginning: it's only begun. what does His resurrection mean for us? Does it mean after Easter is done and dusted; we go back to who we were? What does Easter personally mean to each one of us? 

The resurrection signifies a new creation and offers us the possibility of living a new life in Christ. Just as Jesus was raised to new life, we too are called to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4). This empowers us to overcome sin, live righteously, and follow Jesus' example of love and service. It means we walk away from our old ways and change our ways to His way. If we truly believe in the resurrection of Christ, we will resurrect Him in our own lives, cleaning it out to make a home for Him.

Becoming more like Christ is a lifelong journey of transformation that involves intentionally aligning our thoughts, actions, and attitudes with His example and teachings and reliance on God's grace.

Such a Change is empowered by the Holy Spirit and therefore, the visible effects of such change is seen as fruits of the Spirit, a collection of nine positive attributes that are evidence of the Holy Spirit's presence in a believer's life. These are - love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23.), in short, a spirit filled life.

Let's explore each of these fruits. 

Love (Agape): This is more than just affection; it's a selfless, unconditional love that seeks the best for others, mirroring God's love for us. It's an active choice to prioritize others. Loving others not to show but in action. Not in intention but in actual delivery.

Joy: This is a deep-seated gladness and contentment that isn't dependent on external circumstances. It's rooted in our relationship with God and the hope we have in Him. Finding hope in God is often deeply personal, shaped by faith, experiences, and reflections.

Peace: This refers to an inner tranquility and a sense of wholeness, even amidst difficulties. It also extends to harmonious relationships with others. Your inner peace will determine outward behavior. 

Forbearance (Patience): This is the ability to remain calm and long-suffering in the face of delays, frustrations, or difficult people. It involves a willingness to endure without getting angry or upset.

Kindness: This is the quality of being gentle, helpful, and considerate towards others. It involves showing compassion and acting with goodwill.

Goodness: This is moral excellence and uprightness. It's a desire to do what is right and honorable in all situations. What we do when no one is looking, is what counts, because God is and God knows. Integrity in personal life, our work and profession. A failure point for many, and one which we need to be very wary of because it can become second nature, being justified as being "street smart". 

Faithfulness: This implies loyalty, trustworthiness, and dependability. It means being reliable in our commitments to God and to others. Again, a major failure point for many, as keeping a commitment made to someone tends to take a back seat when we need to choose between ourselves, our comfort and our convenience. 

Gentleness (Meekness): This is a disposition of humility and mildness. It's not weakness, but rather strength under control, showing consideration for others.

Self-control: This is the ability to manage one's desires and impulses. It involves discipline over our thoughts, words, and actions. Self-Control and discipline is key in our endeavor to change. 

Thus, Easter is not just a historical event we commemorate; it is a living reality that transforms our lives, offering forgiveness, hope, purpose, and the power to live in the light of Christ's victory. It is a chance for us to also start a new life with and through Christ. A new beginning. 

7 Words: 10 Questions

Tomorrow is Good Friday and like all Good Friday’s most churches will call upon their elders to talk about the seven words Jesus spoke from the Cross. But to us, those Seven words raise serious questions about the whole Christian experience and life. Today we will briefly, try and understand what those seven words mean to our lives in practical application, so that when we hear our elders speak tomorrow, we have a perspective relating to our own lives.

1. "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." (Luke 23:34)

Message: Jesus begins His final moments with a prayer of forgiveness for those who crucified Him. Despite the physical agony and emotional betrayal, He intercedes for humanity, demonstrating His boundless mercy. This prayer reflects the heart of His mission—to bring reconciliation between God and mankind.

Application: Forgiveness is not easy, especially when we are wronged. Yet, Jesus calls us to forgive, even when it feels undeserved. Are we willing to let go of bitterness and extend grace to others?

2. "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43)

Message: Jesus offers hope and salvation to the repentant thief, showing that redemption is available to all who turn to Him in faith. This statement underscores the inclusivity of God's grace—no one is beyond His reach.

Application: No matter our past mistakes, we can approach Jesus with a repentant heart and receive His promise of eternal life. Are we ready to trust Him with our future?

3. "Woman, here is your son... Here is your mother." (John 19:26-27)

Message: Even in His suffering, Jesus cares for His mother, ensuring she is cared for by the disciple John. This act of compassion highlights the importance of family and community.

Application: How can we show love and care for those around us, especially in times of hardship? Are we attentive to the needs of our loved ones, even in hardship?

4. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46)

Message: Jesus cries out in anguish, quoting Psalm 22. This moment reveals the depth of His suffering as He bears the weight of humanity's sin. It also fulfils prophecy, showing that even in despair, God's plan is unfolding.

Application: In moments of pain and doubt, we can cry out to God, knowing He understands our struggles. Are we willing to trust Him, even when we feel abandoned?

5. "I am thirsty." (John 19:28)

Message: Jesus expresses His physical thirst, fulfilling Scripture and revealing His humanity. This statement reminds us that He fully experienced human suffering. When the soldiers offered Him sour wine on a sponge, lifted on a hyssop branch, that act connects to the Passover, where hyssop was used to apply the blood of the lamb. Jesus, the Lamb of God, sheds His blood to save us from sin. 

Application: Are we attentive to the needs of others, both physical and spiritual? How can we serve those who are in need? Do we thirst for God and His righteousness?

6. "It is finished." (John 19:30)

Message: Jesus declares the completion of His mission to redeem humanity. The debt of sin is paid in full, and the path to salvation is opened. This is a triumphant moment, marking the victory of God's plan.

Application: We can live in the freedom and victory of Christ's finished work. Are we embracing the grace and redemption He offers?

7. "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." (Luke 23:46)

Message: Jesus surrenders His life to the Father, demonstrating trust and obedience. This final statement reflects His unwavering faith and the fulfillment of His earthly mission.

Application: Are we willing to entrust our lives to God, even in the face of uncertainty? How can we live with faith and surrender to His will?

The seven words of Jesus from the cross are a testament to His love, sacrifice, and victory. They call us to forgiveness, faith, compassion, and trust. Tomorrow as we reflect on these words, may they inspire us to live lives that honor His sacrifice and share His love with the world.

Seed By the Wayside

                                                     

Matthew 13:19 "When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side".

In the days of old, there was no Bible, no word of God written somewhere. So when God needed to communicate he did so through prophets. They had a calling, were receptive to God's communication through dreams and signs, were blessed with wisdom and knew human nature of those times.

Today, we find all these qualities in Gods word, and hence, just as it was critical to listen to what the prophets said then, it is critical for us to read and understand Gods word now - to gain His wisdom, knowledge and His instruction for our lives.

To do this we need to go beyond just reading the word. We need to read, understand and apply it to our lives.

To read His word is simple - we just need to find and consecrate quiet, unadulterated time to it.

Understanding His word needs some work. In the quoted chapter Jesus Himself asks that question - "have you understood all these things"? That is the importance to be attached to His word. We need to research the background, sometimes check translations, understand the context and references and so on. (For example we may have read Psalms 35 and 91 many times but have to stopped to find out what is a "buckler" and thus how can you ever understand the impact when it says His truth and His helps is like a "shield and buckler"?)

All of this is possible only by dedicating time, patience and is hard work, but above all we need to ask for the wisdom and guidance to understand it from the Holy Spirit. Thus, it may be a good idea to pray for such opening of the eyes and mind by the Holy Spirit before we read.

And then comes the application to our lives. If we have read it and understood it, we will be able to identify, without rationalization or justification, the impact of what we do and ask forgiveness, specifically for those acts of commission or omission we may not even be conscious of, correct them and practice the new way according to His word, so that it gets sowed deep in our hearts and minds.

In the quoted verse, and in the parable, Jesus is talking about exactly this: hearing or reading the word of God and not understanding it can open us up to deceit by Satan. He can misrepresent it (through adulterated doctrine) or minimize the impact of what we have read, through faulty understanding or biases, so that it becomes useless, making us completely vulnerable.

So, if we are in the habit of performing a tick in the box by perfunctory reading, albeit it maybe a daily discipline, understand that it opens us to spiritual danger and becomes a useless exercise. A time wasted. A life without purpose. A shallow understanding. It's better not to read it at all.

So let us not receive "the seed" (Gods word) by "the Wayside" , as a superficial reception, but give His word the honor, understanding, time and Devotion it deserves and demands and ask for the Holy Spirit for give wisdom to understand the word.

Life Changing Reality

A life-changing reality is a profound shift in one's understanding of themselves, the world, or both, leading to a significant alteration in their values, beliefs, and ultimately, their life path. It's not merely a new piece of information, but an experience, insight, or realization that fundamentally alters one's perspective. It is the tipping point, after which one experience triggers change in thought, action and priorities.

John 9:25 states: “He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.”

This verse reflects the testimony of a man who was healed by Jesus, emphasizing the transformative power of faith and healing. The context of this verse highlights the man's acknowledgment of his previous blindness and newfound sight, symbolizing spiritual awakening and understanding.

The blind man in this story went through such a change when he experienced a life changing reality: Jesus. And he could not deny Him because he could not deny his own miraculous healing.

Another life changing moment and reality is written about in John 8, 1-11. What would that woman have felt when she saw Jesus at work? While the then law stated that both - the man and woman caught in adultery were to be stoned, here she alone was being made a scapegoat in the politics of the Pharisees.    Jesus was and is life changing. 

But the ultimate life changing reality is the resurrection of Jesus because it empowers us to change and transform into a new life.  It changed the world and changed us.

God's Plan: Our Role

Acts 5:12 states: “And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch)”

This verse highlights the miraculous works performed by the Apostles. But what about us? What can we do? 

Knowing your role in God's plan is a deeply personal and ongoing journey. There isn't a single, definitive answer that will be revealed in a moment, but rather a process of seeking, learning, and growing.

Your role may not include performing signs and wonder like the Apostles did, but we will have a role all the same, albeit a silent one. 

A KJV Bible study comments on Acts says that the early church was marked by these miraculous events to conform the message of the Gospel and draw people to faith in Christ. 

Today we may not see the same kind of dramatic signs and wonders that the Apostles performed, however we can still experience the power of God working in our lives and in the lives of those around us. God is still at work in the world and invites us to join Him in His mission. How? 

Perhaps we can be agents of God's love and compassion to those who are hurting and in need. Or maybe we can be ambassadors of reconciliation to those who are estranged from God and one another. Whatever our role maybe we can trust that God will use us to make a difference in the lives of others with the power of God working through us. 

A New Day

 

Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV): "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." 

This verse beautifully illustrates the daily renewal of God's grace and mercy, offering a fresh start each day to each of us. 

Isaiah too gave similar counsel in chapter 43:18-19 (ESV): "Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." 

This encourages us to look forward to the new things God is doing and a daily spiritual renewal and revival for each one.  So, every day let us be happy for another day to live. 

Today is a New Day so thank you for a chance for a new start. Yesterday's gone and with it are our failures, mistakes and regrets. Lets ask God to help us to start again. It's a good day to give thanks for this life. A new opportunity to love, give and be all that He wants us to be.

The Modern Eve

Despite the actions of Adam and Eve, and Eve's role in those events, God recognized the immense value and strategic importance of a woman as a wife. If Eve possessed the ability to influence Adam toward rebellion, she also had the potential to guide him toward faithfulness and obedience to God.

In this light, the modern-day woman embodies a vital role—serving as God’s influencer within the family. A wife has the capacity to inspire spiritual growth and foster faithfulness and godliness in her husband and children. Her influence, however, extends far beyond the boundaries of her immediate family, reaching into society, the church, the workplace, and the broader community.

Thus, today's Eve holds a very important position : that of being Gods influencer in the family.

The Bible features numerous women who wielded significant influence, demonstrating strength, faith, and leadership. Here are a few notable examples:

She was a prophetess and played a crucial role in the early life of Moses. Her leadership in song and dance after the crossing of the Red Sea highlights her influence.

Deborah:

She was a prophetess and judge, providing leadership and guidance to the Israelites.

She led the Israelite army to victory against their enemies.

Esther:

She was a queen who risked her life to save the Jewish people from annihilation. Her courage and strategic thinking had a profound impact on her nation's survival.

Mary, the mother of Jesus:

Her acceptance of God's call to bear Jesus had a pivotal role in Christian history. Her faith and obedience are held as examples.

Mary Magdalene:

She was a devoted follower of Jesus and the first witness to his resurrection. Her testimony played a vital role in spreading the news of Jesus's resurrection.

Lydia:

She was a successful businesswoman, and a very early convert to Christianity in Europe. Her hospitality, and the conversion of her household, provided a place for the early church to grow.

These remarkable women demonstrate that, throughout biblical history, women held profound influence and made significant contributions to their communities and to the unfolding of God’s plan. While some, like Eve and Potiphar's wife, are remembered for negative influence, countless others serve as sources of inspiration for using influence to uplift and bring about goodness.

Today, we appreciate the women around us and have seen them play a significant role during Lent, both in biblical narratives and in modern spiritual practices. They continue to embody the spirit of Lent through acts of service, prayer, and leadership in their communities.

Losses and Gains of Prayer

There is this story of a man who was asked what he gained by praying so much to God. The man replied nothing. But I lost a lot. How so, he was asked, what did you lose?

"I lost anger, greed, ego, insecurity and fear of death to start with".

On reading this, maybe fictitious, story, one thinks - what did I gain or lose by praying and spending time with God?

For starters we may gain a relationship with the Father. By having that we can be assured that all things, no matter how dismal they may look today, work together for our good. So that builds up faith. We also realize we are under His protection. That builds up a sense of security. We also realize that He is very real, because we see Him at work in our life. Therefore, He exists in a realm which is our destination and therefore death is not final. And till then, we are at peace with ourselves and our fellow men, which adds to happiness

Finally, our deep peace comes from not being at loggerheads with God over who's will we want. Our will aligns with Gods will and we, together, develop a common vision for us.

And then I realize the truth: sometimes what we see as a loss at the moment, turns out to be a blessing.

Prayer is not about gaining something or losing something. It's about building a relationship with our creator, which takes care of each of us in this life on earth and assures us of a life in His realm thereafter.

Keeping praying, even if what you want is not happening because What you truly and really need will always happen.

Finding God

Matthew 17: Verses 1-9

About eight days after Jesus had made certain statements (likely referring to his impending suffering and death), he took Peter, John, and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. 

As Jesus was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.

The three of them were looking at God!

One wonders how and when and if we too will see God or encounter God in our earthly life. Ms. Francis Taylor answers this question in a simple and beautiful way, and we reproduce it here:

"When I asked myself that question (if I will see God), I came up with so many answers they were too long to list! However, I will name a few: looking into the faces of my newborn children and grandchildren, watching the waves break on a stormy day, standing in Denali, looking up at Mt. McKinley, a crocus peeking out of the snow, seeing the sunrise and/or sunset over the ocean, seeing the look of love in the eyes of a spouse or a child. I could go on but it's time for you to think about it. One thing I have learned is that you won't see the hand of God unless you look for it. I feel very gifted that I had a grandmother who taught me to look for God when I was very young – three years old! Needless to say, my world was not exactly filled with exciting visions at that point – nor has it been since then, but I learned that God was in the very ordinariness of our days. You are running late and find that you just missed the accident on the highway. You didn't hit the car that came out from behind the snow bank without stopping. God is always there in both the good and the sad times. 

We cannot stand with Peter, James and John at the top of the mountain but as we continue through Lent, let us challenge ourselves to take a few moments at the end of each day and thank God for God's presence in the ordinariness of our own days".

Money, Power & Fame....

In an earlier post about following Jesus, we talked about making idols in our lives, contrary to the 1st commandment. We think we don't, but we do.

Rev Francis says - "Every time we put our needs before God, we set ourselves up as gods. Every time we choose pleasure, money, sports before God, we have created idols for ourselves."

Is it any wonder that Jesus said that we need to forsake what the world gives us to be able to follow Him? He never said that we should not enjoy the good things we have - but let not those things become "Gods" and give them priority over that one true God.

It could be something as simple as time. We can't serve Jesus because our job takes up too much time. It could be our family or a party or TV or sports. This does not mean we should not have or do these things. It simply means we must develop a habit to consciously give priority to Jesus over everything else, which comes second.

Today, let's review our life, and without a bias, identify those things, people or activities which we maybe idolizing, giving them a place on our lives above God and Let us make a step wise plan to de-brick all of them.

Give God a Chance: Pastor Rajiv's Daily Reflections

Psalm 22:1

"For the director of music. To the tune of “The Doe of the Morning.” A psalm of David. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?"

David starts Psalm 22 with this cry from the depths of his despair and our Lord cried it out as He hung on the tree.

Like David and Jesus, haven't we all felt forsaken at some point in our lives? Maybe today? When it seems everything is going against us? When it seems even the God we believe in has turned away?

There is nothing wrong if one feels like that. Our Christ felt it as well. But what does one do in such a situation?

1. Question God. God is our father, he listens to us, hears us and answers us. If we have some doubt, we should question Him and I believe He will answer.

2. Sit still and listen for His answer. "Be still and know that I am God" is Gods instruction to Israel to stop their frantic war activity and let God do His work. The same holds true today. 

What we should not do is panic and do many things to help ourselves or grumble and start calling friends and family hoping for some help or advice. In all this frantic activity where is the faith and belief in God ?

Where is the chance we give to God to do His work? Most importantly where is our acceptance of His will to be done? Did God answer David's prayer? Sure He did. David's was one of the most successful Israeli kings. Did God help him? Sure. 

The Bible contains so many instances of how God helped His people, instructions to them on how to receive His help etc. Why not fall back on His word and ask Him?
