"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
9 Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy."
Proverbs 31:8-9
As we step into a new week, the Monday Reset calls us to look beyond our immediate routines and realign our hearts with God’s heartbeat for justice. Throughout scripture and human history, God consistently aligns Himself with the marginalized. From the enslaved Hebrews in Egypt being raised up as His chosen people, to the abolition of slavery, to the dark horrors committed in the name of fallen empires and world wars—our world remains heavily weighed down by immeasurable suffering.
As Christians, we are explicitly called to be advocates in a world fractured by injustice. Scripture does not give us the option of passive neutrality. Whether its the workplace, the home, or the world at large. We are commanded to defend the oppressed and downtrodden—even those who do not yet know our Heavenly Father.
We must actively choose not to be on the wrong side of history, and never on the side of the oppressor. Instead, we are called to bring hope to God’s children who have little to no voice.
This advocacy requires two critical steps from us this week:
Looking Outward (Awareness): We cannot fight an injustice we choose to ignore. Whether it is systemic racism, human trafficking, or generational poverty, our first step is to wake up to the reality of the world around us and educate ourselves on these issues.
Looking Inward (Humility): True advocacy involves confronting our own internal biases and prejudices. It means laying down our personal comfort and privileges to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the marginalized.
Looking Upward (Prayer)
It takes immense courage to speak up when it is uncomfortable or unpopular. But practicing justice isn't about protecting our own reputation, status, or comfort. Whether we are at home, in the corporate office, within our churches, or out in the wider world, we are called to show up for others just as Christ showed up for us. One of the most powerful ways is through prayer. Even if we cannot be physically able to speak up or help we have a powerful weapon - called prayer - to provide help or ask for strength and resources to provide help or protection.
The Monday Reset Challenge
This week, pay close attention to the spaces you walk through. Is there someone at work being spoken over? Is there a community issue you’ve tuned out because it doesn't affect you personally? Choose one area to listen, learn, and speak up.
Arrow Prayer*
God of Justice, give me eyes to see the hurting, a heart broken for what breaks Yours, and the courage to speak up for those who have no voice— even when my own voice shakes. Amen
*An "arrow prayer" is a short, pointed prayer meant to be shot up quickly to God in moments of need throughout the busy week.
