Sabbath Vespers: Stand Still

Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still 

Exodus 14:13, 14

These words contain God’s command to the believer when he is reduced to great straits and brought into extraordinary difficulties. He cannot retreat; he cannot go forward; he is shut up on the right hand and on the left; what is he now to do? The Master’s word to him is, “Stand still.”

Almighty Lord, we stand still today and as the sun sets and the peace of the Sabbath settles over our heart, we step away from the noise, the hustle, and the constant demands of the week. Lord, our hands are tired from striving, and our mind is often weary from planning, running, and trying to carry burdens that were never mine to hold.

Tonight, I hear Your quiet whisper over the chaos of the world: "Stand still."

We thank thee everyday for Samira; we thank you for her life, for her healing and the strength you provide her everyday. Be with her this week, as she undergoes her Immunotherapy - that the treatment is effective with the least possible side effects as it has been in the past. We pray for Nina, for the chemo to have maximum efficacy and minimum side effects. Give her strength to be able to take this treatment.

We pray for Lisa, for her court case on the 17th as she re-builds her life as a cancer survivor. That it turns in her favour and she gains what she has lost. We pray for her daughter Arielle, her recovery from the chemo she has been through. We pray for your grace on Jen and for your intervention to be able to qualify for the trial drugs. We pray for your healing and strength as she goes through the process.

We pray for Joan, and thank you that she has completed her therapy successfully.

We also pray for Laurika and Haleen - that they may experience your strength and grace. Also for Victoria for her healing from cancer as well as her mother, Alison.

Lord we pray to you because you care and you listen and we hope in and wait on you.

Forgive us Father, for the times we have relied on our own strength, running ahead of Your timing or worrying about what lies downstream. In a world that demands constant movement, speed, and visibility, teach us the sacred power of halting our steps.

We declare that this Sabbath is a sanctuary of rest.
