Monday Reset: From "Cured" to "Healed"

As we step into a new week, many of us carry medical history, habits, or deep addictions from the past. We often settle for quick fixes, temporary relief, or medical "cures" that leave us anxious about a potential relapse or setback. Today we learn about healing from Alice Cooper, the king of "Shock Rock".
By examining the power of supernatural healing over simple curing, this Monday Reset devotional invites you to trust God not just to patch up your life, but to fully restore you to His intended purpose.
Key Takeaways
Cured vs. Healed: A cure addresses symptoms or removes a temporary threat, whereas divine healing restores a person to their original state.
God as the Restorer: Restoration is an intentional act of God.
Divine Identity: God reveals His core character through His names and promises—He is Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who heals and restores.
"'For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,' says the Lord..."  Jeremiah 30:17
"...for I am the Lord who heals you."
Exodus 15:26

From "Cured" to "Healed"
In the world of rock music, Alice Cooper, (born Vincent Damon Furnier) is widely known as "The Godfather of Shock Rock"—pioneering theatrical, macabre stage performances across a career spanning six decades. However, behind the theatrical persona was a man who fell prey to severe alcoholism early in his journey. The addiction eventually brought him to the point of vomiting blood, prompting his wife to step in and insist on rehab.
While treatment centers see many people complete rehab, Cooper experienced something beyond traditional medical recovery. He left treatment without returning to alcohol or drugs, attributing his permanent freedom to a direct, supernatural work of God. In an interview with Charisma Magazine, he made a striking distinction:
"People would say, 'Well, you're a cured alcoholic.' And I go, 'No, I'm a healed alcoholic.'"
That statement reveals a profound spiritual truth. What is the difference between being cured and being healed?
The Difference Between Curing and Restoring
When human medicine "cures" an illness or addiction, the underlying threat or probability of a reversal often lingers. That fear haunts the patient all their life.
In contrast, when God heals, He initiates a process of restoration.
Restoration is the process by which a person is returned to their original state of spiritual and physical alignment with God. We cover this in greater detail in our post titled "The Great Darner" and invite you to read it here.
When God works supernaturally, He guides every detail—shaping circumstances, directing us to the right people or the right medical professionals, and shielding our lives. He does not simply leave us there - He supervises the doctors themselves, guiding and directing them. He doesn't just eliminate the symptom; He heals the soul, removes the fear, and restores what was broken.
In Exodus 15:26, God establishes His very identity: "...for I am the Lord who heals you." In Jeremiah 30:17, He makes a direct declaration of His character as a Restorer, promising, "I will restore health to you..."
God is not merely a temporary physician; He is our divine Restorer. When Christ touches a life, He restores our dignity, renews our minds, and secures our path forward.

Resetting Your Mindset This Week
Bring your illness, habits, or past wounds to God today. Stop asking merely for temporary cure and begin asking Him for full spiritual restoration.
Trust His Guiding Hand: Recognize that God works through both supernatural breakthroughs and guided medical care. Look for His hand directing your daily path, decisions, and relationships this week.
Stand on His Promises: Memorize Jeremiah 30:17 and speak it over your health, family, and mind whenever fear or doubt arises.

Arrow Prayer
Lord God, You are Jehovah Rapha—the Lord who heals and restores. As I begin this week, I bring my illness, my wounds, habits, and fears to You.
Do not just cure my circumstances; restore me. Restore my soul. Touch the broken areas of my life, remove my fear of the future, and align my heart with Your perfect peace. Amen.
