Monday Reset: 6 Principles for Living as Christian

Read: The Book of Joshua

Christianity, for Christians, is the New Promised land. Like the Jews who underwent transformation for 40 years in the desert, walking as a Christian is an ongoing journey of transformation, trust, and daily obedience. Grounded in the Book of Joshua, Today we present a guide which outlines six foundational principles for navigating daily Christian life, spiritual growth, and personal choices in alignment with God’s will.

Key Guidelines at a Glance

  • Lead with Faith over Fear: Rely on God's promised presence when facing life's uncertainties.

  • Make Scripture Your Daily Foundation: Shape your character and decisions around God's Word.

  • Prioritize Purity and Honesty: Maintain open alignment with God by dealing promptly with secret compromises.

  • Inquire Before You Act: Avoid reliance on human logic alone by bringing every choice to God in prayer.

Guideline 1: Step Out in Courage and Faith
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9

Following Christ requires stepping beyond your comfort zone, abandoning harmful habits, and facing real-world challenges. Courage is not the absence of fear or obstacles; it is the conviction that God’s presence accompanies you into every situation.

  • Practical Rule: Do not let fear or intimidation dictate your choices. Base your actions on God’s promises rather than temporary circumstances.

Guideline 2: Anchor Your Mind in Scripture Daily

"Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it..." — Joshua 1:8

A Christian life requires a renewed mind. Spiritual success and character growth come from continually immersing your thoughts, words, and actions in the Truth of Scripture.

  • Practical Rule: Establish a consistent daily habit of reading, reflecting on, and applying the Bible to your life before making decisions.

Guideline 3: Prepare Internally Before External Battles

"Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you." — Joshua 3:5

Before Israel engaged in external warfare, God demanded internal consecration (Joshua 3 & 5). Victory in spiritual growth, witness, and ministry flows from a heart surrendered in prayer, purity, and worship.

  • Practical Rule: Prioritize quiet time, prayer, and personal devotion. Do not attempt to accomplish God's work using purely human strength or strategy.

Guideline 4: Walk in Total Integrity (Bring Hidden Sin into the Light)

The failure at Ai (Joshua 7) demonstrates that hidden compromise breaks spiritual alignment and peace. Clinging to secret habits or dishonesty while professing faith hinders spiritual vitality.

  • Practical Rule: Practice immediate confession, repentance, and accountability. Keep short accounts with God and ensure your private life reflects your public faith.

Guideline 5: Seek Divine Guidance Over Self-Reliance

In Joshua 9, Israel was deceived by the Gibeonites because they relied solely on surface impressions and "did not inquire of the Lord." Relying strictly on human logic or feelings leaves you vulnerable to misplaced commitments.

  • Practical Rule: Bring all major choices—relationships, career steps, financial decisions, and personal commitments—to God in prayer before moving forward.

Guideline 6: Settle Your Loyalty to Christ in Advance

"But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." — Joshua 24:15

Living for Christ requires an intentional, decisive posture. Deciding who you serve before trials or temptations arrive keeps your values firm when pressure mounts.

  • Practical Rule: Declare your allegiance to God daily. Resolve in advance how you will respond when culture, convenience, or temptation challenges your faith.

A Sabbath Prayer for Peace, Hope, and Healing

We request our community to join our Sabbath prayer to focus on entering God's rest, giving thanks for past healing & deliverance, seeking divine peace (shalom), and offering intercessions for physical and financial protection.

Today we pray for Sabbath Rest & Peace (Shalom) by Stepping away from weekly anxieties into God’s restorative quiet. We pray for Gratitude & Hope and Thanking God for past deliverance while maintaining hope through ongoing trials.
Prayers for Thanksgiving
We thank You for the mercy You have bestowed on Samira, Nina, Sonali, Simon, Samaira, and so many others as You provide them with healing and strength. Continue, we pray for your mercy on them.
Prayer for Healing
We especially pray for Healing & Protection, specifically for medical recovery, treatment strength, senior citizen care, and financial security. Be with Samira as she continues her treatment this week, and grant Nina full strength as she recovers from her therapy.
Lord, As the sun sets and the Sabbath begins, we step out of the noise and demands of the week into the quiet sanctuary of Your rest. We pause to breathe in Your presence and lay down the burdens, anxieties, and striving that we have carried, grateful to be relieved of their weight.
We thank You for deliverance where it has come, peace where it has not yet arrived, and steadfast hope as we wait upon You.
For Protection: Grant protection for Richard, and provide financial protection and wisdom for Paladin.
For Seniors & The Infirm: We uplift our senior citizens—especially those suffering from back and hip pain who depend on You alone.
For Revival
Lord, we pray very specially for the revival of hearts and minds to align with you, to follow you and to hear you and practise what you teach us.
For Severe Illness & Recovery: Comfort those who are incapacitated, those undergoing dialysis, and all undergoing serious medical procedures. Restore everyone who needs Your healing mentally, physically, or spiritually.
A Petition for Divine Peace (Shalom)
Lord, we ask for Your peace—the divine shalom that surpasses all human understanding. Guard our hearts and minds tonight. Where there has been conflict, bring swift reconciliation. Where there is inner turmoil, speak Your steadying word: "Peace, be still." Restore our weary souls and let Your Sabbath rest fill every room of our homes and every corner of our hearts.
Fill us with a steadfast hope. Lift our eyes above our current circumstances and anchor our trust in Your unchanging promises. Remind us that our future is held securely in Your hands, and that Your mercies are brand new every morning. May this holy day renew our vision, quiet our fears, and light our path forward with faith for tomorrow.
As we rest in You today, make us instruments of Your peace and beacons of Your hope to a world in need.
In Your holy name, we pray,
Amen.

Finding Hope in the Depths: Spiritual Lessons from Jonah

When you reach the absolute bottom—paralyzed by despair with nowhere to turn—where do you look for hope? The story of Jonah offers a clear framework for navigating rock-bottom moments, spiritual surrender, and divine restoration.

Key Takeaways
  • Identify "Lying Vanities" Early: Self-reliance, pride, and fleeing God's calling are illusions that promise freedom but lead to spiritual captivity (Jonah 2:8).
  • View Crises as "Severe Mercies": Painful trials are often divine interventions designed to halt self-destruction and redirect your path.
  • True Deliverance Begins with Surrender: God does not demand self-correction before acting; He responds instantly to a repentant, surrendered heart (Jonah 2:9).

"...Salvation belongs to the Lord"
Jonah 2:9

What Does Jonah Chapter 2 Teach Us About Despair?
In Jonah 2, the prophet describes a literal and metaphorical "living death." Trapped in the dark, suffocating belly of a great fish, surrounded by stomach acids and experiencing a total loss of control, Jonah faces the ultimate consequence of running from God’s will.
Jonah’s flight toward Tarshish was more than a geographical detour—it was a spiritual decision to prioritize self-reliance over divine command. By choosing his own path, Jonah chased what Scripture calls "lying vanities": the dangerous illusion that lasting peace, control, or security can exist apart from God.

The Cycle of Spiritual Restoration

How to Apply These Lessons Today
1. Audit Your Life for False Reliance
Examine areas where you are relying on personal control rather than biblical guidance. Stop chasing self-directed outcomes where God requires trust and obedience.
2. Shift Your Perspective on Current Trials
When feeling trapped at the bottom, refrain from fighting the immediate circumstance. Instead, ask what posture, habit, or desire God is calling you to relinquish.
3. Yield Control to Receive Divine Mercy
In Jonah 2:9, Jonah declares, "Salvation belongs to the Lord!"—prompting God to command the fish to return him to dry land. Realize that turning away from self-will unlocks the steadfast mercy ("chesed") you need.

Lord, when I am at the bottom, help me stop clinging to my own way. Forgive my rebellion, shatter my illusions of control, and remind me that salvation belongs to You alone. Amen.

The Backsliders: Pastor Rajiv

The shift from the "Hosannas" of Palm Sunday to the "Crucify Him" of Friday is one of the most dramatic turnarounds in history. While it seems like a sudden flip, several high-tension events occurred during those four days that eroded the crowd's support. But the most profound thing that happened was that Jesus cried!
We can learn a lot from those 5 days in Jerusalem. More so because the backsliding of the people then, and our backsliding today, is the same.
Lets see the impact of everything that happened.

1. The Cleansing of the Temple (Monday)
Jesus entered the Temple and overturned the tables of the moneychangers.
The Impact: This wasn't just a religious act; it was an economic disruption. He struck at the heart of the city's commerce and challenged the authority of the High Priests (the Sadducees).

2. Failed Political Expectations
The crowd on Palm Sunday expected a Militant Messiah. They laid down palm branches—a symbol of Jewish nationalism—expecting Jesus to lead an armed revolt against the Roman occupiers. So, when the Jewish people greeted Jesus waving palm branches, they were expressing their hope that the Messiah was in the city to take control of his people and throw off the chains of roman bondage, setting them free to be the mighty nation they were prophesied to be.
When Jesus didn't call for a revolution, the nationalist fervor turned into disappointment. A crowd that feels "let down" by a leader can turn bitter very quickly.

4. Direct Confrontation with Leaders
Jesus delivered the "Seven Woes" (Matthew 23), where he publicly called the religious leaders "hypocrites" and "whitewashed tombs."
The Impact: This forced the hand of the Sanhedrin. They realized they couldn't just ignore him; they had to discredit him. They began a "whisper campaign," telling the people that Jesus was a blasphemer who would bring Roman wrath down on the whole city.

5. Then Jesus Wept
Why did Jesus have this sad reaction to such a tumultuous welcome by the people of Jerusalem? Three reasons: ironically Jerusalem means à city of peace but Jesus wept because –
· The great privileges were being abused
· The great possibilities that had been rejected and
· The great punishment he knew was coming on the city and its people

Jerusalem had abandoned its faith, rejected the messiah, and would be laid to waste with terrible judgement.

Every year, we celebrate Good Friday and Easter.  Have we not forgotten His passion and gone back to doing the same things? Do we not backslide when our expectations from Jesus are not met or met in another way? Do we not corrupt our bodies which are His temple? Do we not abuse the privileges God has given us in some measure? Have we not rejected limitless possibilities offered by God?
How are we any different from the crowds of Palm Sunday?

Monday Reset: Sailing with Christ

"Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch."
Luke 5:4 (NKJV)

Navigation at sea depends not on controlling the storm, but on who holds the helm and how your sails are set.
In Mark 4:35-41, when a severe gale arose on the Sea of Galilee, the disciples panicked while Jesus slept in the stern. When awakened, He spoke three words—"Peace, be still"—and the wind dropped. The miracle was not just that Jesus calmed the storm, but that He was present in the boat long before the storm began.

Sailing with Christ requires shifting from self-reliance to active trust, using His Word as your chart and His Spirit as your compass.
1. Anchor Your Trust Before the Storm
Mark 4:38
A ship does not test its anchor in the middle of a gale; it tests it before setting sail. Anchor your confidence in God's character during calm moments so panic doesn't dictate your decisions when trials arrive.
2. Yield the Helm
Proverbs 3:5-6
Disciples often treat Christ as a passenger until crisis strikes. Yield final authority over your schedule, career, and choices to Him daily, rather than calling on Him only as a emergency rescue.
3. Adjust Your Sails to His Spirit
John 16:33
You cannot control the external winds of circumstance, market shifts, or other people's actions. Focus your energy on adjusting your internal response—your sails—to align with the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

The Boat Was Never Meant to Stay in the Harbor Harbors offer safety, but ships are built for open waters. Christ rarely calls His followers to static comfort; He invites them onto deep waters where self-sufficiency fails. If your current circumstances feel overwhelming, it may not mean you are out of God's will—it may mean you are finally far enough from the shore to need His strength entirely.
Arrow Prayer for the Helm
Lord Christ, Master of wind and wave, I hand You the wheel of my life today. Forgive me for the times I try to navigate in my own strength or doubt Your presence in the middle of the storm. Calibrate my heart to Your voice, give me peace in turbulent waters, and lead me safely according to Your purpose. Amen.

Sabbath Prayer Time

"Out of His fullness we have all received grace upon grace."
John 1:16

Lord, thank You for Your abundant and abounding grace. Thank You that we don't have to earn a drop of the mighty river of grace that flows freely for us today. Thank You for the unexpected and unmerited favor You have showered on our lives. Help us to put ourselves in the path of Your love and grace. Help us not to neglect the disciplines we need to meet with You regularly and to drink the water of life.
Lord, on this Sabbath, as we rest in Your finished work, we lift up our hearts in deep gratitude. We thank You for Your faithful hand in the deliverance of Samira, Simon, Samaira, Joan, and Sonali. We ask for Your continued wall of protection around each of them, and that You would renew their physical, emotional, and spiritual strength day by day.
We bring before You Nina, Mr. Roy, Melanie, and Sonika’s brother. Lord, You are Jehovah Rapha, our Healer. We pray for Your sovereign protection over them and ask that Your healing virtue would flow through their bodies and minds, bringing restoration, strength, and complete wholeness. We pray very specially for Nina as she goes for her Chemo cycle this week and also for Arielle to start hers as soon as possible. We pray for Jen to qualify for the trials so that her treatment starts as well. We ask for your strength and presence in Lisa's life as she rehabilitates.
We bring Brent into Your presence today, asking that You guide his steps, watch over his life, and surround him with Your lovingkindness. And Lord, we lift up Matthew to You—where there is turmoil, worry, or heaviness, grant him Your peace that surpasses all human understanding to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

As we enter into this holy day of rest, quiet our souls in Your presence. May Your Sabbath peace rule in our homes, and may we be continuously filled from the overflowing fountain of Your grace.
In Jesus' precious and mighty name,

Amen.
