When we open the Scriptures, we often notice what God creates, but we easily overlook what He first declares holy. In Genesis 2:3, after shaping the expanse of the universe and filling the earth with life, God does something remarkable: “Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”
God did not first bless a physical structure, an object, or a piece of land. The very first object of His blessing was a unit of time—the Sabbath.
Viewing time through this lens shifts our entire perspective. Time is not an infinite supply that belongs to us; it is borrowed time. Every second, minute, and hour is a limited, blessed resource entrusted to us by God. When we realize our time is on loan from the Almighty, we stop treating it as cheap or disposable.
We cannot create more time, nor can we buy back what has passed. When we waste time through chronic procrastination, idle distraction, or aimlessness, we are mishandling a holy trust.
But when we treat our days as borrowed, we learn to live with urgency, intentionality, and reverence. Stewarding our hours—for prayer, loving others, working with excellence and doing things which add value to our lives—transforms our schedule into acts of worship.

Lord, remind me that my time is borrowed from You. Help me steward every hour wisely and use my days to bring You glory. Amen.
