The Small Word with a Massive Promise
When King Solomon dedicated the Temple in Jerusalem, God met him with a profound response. He accepted the Temple as a house of sacrifice, but He also laid down a timeless spiritual principle.
Look closely at 2 Chronicles 7:14. It is packed with hope, forgiveness, and the promise of restoration. Yet, it begins with a word that carries both a challenge and a sad commentary on the state of God's people: "IF."
As author O.S. Hawkins points out in The Prayer Code, revival was desperately needed then, and it is desperately needed now. We look at the world around us and see a steady spiritual decline—empty churches, falling attendance, and former places of worship converted into commercial buildings.
It is easy to point fingers at secular culture for this decline. But Hawkins reminds us of a hard truth: The problem isn't the world; the problem lies with God’s own people.
Revival is a sovereign work of God, but He has chosen to make it conditional. God longs to pour out a spiritual reawakening, but He waits on us. If we want to see our lives, churches, and communities healed, we must follow God’s Recipe for Revival. It consists of the following:
Step 1: The Condition — "If My People"
Revival doesn't start with the unbelieving world; it starts in the family of God. It starts with you and me—those who bear the name of Jesus.
When we meet God's conditions, He promises results. But we cannot expect a culture to change until the church changes first.
Step 2: The First Qualification — "Humble Themselves"
The first requirement in God's recipe is humility. We must recognize and confess our utter dependence on Him in all things.
Guarding Against Spiritual Pride: Hawkins warns that spiritual pride breeds self-centeredness. When we think we have it all together, we stop seeking God.
A Broken Spirit: True humility requires coming before God with a broken spirit, laying down our self-reliance, and admitting that we cannot heal ourselves.
Step 3: The Engine of Revival — "And Pray"
Every great spiritual awakening in history was born out of earnest, fervent prayer.
Prayer is not merely a daily routine; it is spiritual warfare. God is actively looking for prayer warriors—people who will call out to Him earnestly and consistently. If we long for a refreshing of faith in our hearts and homes, we must return to the place of deep, passionate prayer.

Lord God, I come before You today recognizing my need for Your refreshing power. Strip away my pride and self-reliance, and give me a spirit of earnest, fervent prayer. Start a revival in me, Lord, and let it overflow into my family, my church, and my community. In Jesus' name, Amen.
